Dr. Thom J. Hodgson

James T. Ryan Distinguished University Professor; Alumni Distinguished Research Professor; and Director of the Integrated Manufacturing Systems Engineering Institute at NC State University


Information: Dr. Hodgson is the James T. Ryan Distinguished University Professor, an Alumni Distinguished Research Professor, and the Director of the Integrated Manufacturing Systems Engineering Institute at North Carolina State University (NCSU). He is a Fellow of IIE and INFORMS, and a member of the National Academy of Engineering. He previously was Department Head of Industrial Engineering at NCSU, past Director of the Division of Design and Manufacturing Systems at the NSF, worked as an Operations Research Analyst at Ford Motor Company; and was a Captain in the U.S. Army. He has been Associate Editor, Departmental Editor, and Editor-in-Chief of the Institute of Industrial Engineers (IIE) Transactions ; and has served on the U.S. Army Science Board. He is an internationally recognized expert in operations research applied to production and service systems, and military operations research. He teaches NCSU's graduate and undergraduate courses in these areas. He has been formally recognized by NCSU as one of its best teachers. He brings a wealth of teaching experience and application problems to the project.
