Dr. John Kenelly

Alumni Distinguished Professor of Mathematics at Clemson University (emeritus)


Information: Dr. Kenelly is the Alumni Distinguished Professor of Mathematics at Clemson University (emeritus). Past Interim National Director of the Advanced Placement Program, past Director of the NSF's Calculus Program, past Chair of the College Board's Academic Affairs Council, past National President of the high school mathematics honor organization Mu Alpha Theta and past Director of the AP Reading for ETS. He currently is on the steering committee for Florida 's Sunshine State Scholar's Program. He is a national leader in educational uses of technology and a member of the design team for many of today's popular graphing calculators (HP-48GX, TI-83, Sharp 9300, and Casio FX 2.0). In government and industry his appointments have included 20 years on Wachovia Bank's Board for the Clemson area. His most recent book, Calculus Concepts, now in its 4th edition, won the Annenberg sponsored INPUT Competition's Grand Prize as the most innovative mathematics text in 1996. He was a post-doctorial member of Stanford's Operations Research department and has taught operations research courses many times in his academic career. He provides a unique combination of formal theory, pedagogy and technology use in mathematics education to the project.
