Teacher and Student Feedback |

Teachers are saying about teaching the materials
- Teaching math using the Mindset materials is more fun.
- I find myself not dreading planning or teaching the same old material in class.
- The MINDSET materials have made me more enthusiastic about teaching mathematics and have helped me realize that students can get notes without being lectured to.
- The MINDSET materials have made me aware at how little students are expected to think independently prior to a concept being taught.
- Teaching linear programming max and min in context is the best way to teach it.
- This material made me realize that even simple math taught in a real-world context can be a powerful tool to motivate students and get them excited about learning math.
Teachers are saying about their students
- The MINDSET material has surprised me. I have noticed that my students are better able to take notes without direct instruction. Since all learning is problem based, students must decide what is important and ensure that it goes into their notes.
- My students are engaged in class and this makes my life easier.
- My students enjoy coming to class and working on the concepts.
- They were all engaged and were thinking at a higher level...it was amazing to see as a teacher.
- Students like the fact that they are not just taking notes and doing worksheets
- Students really enjoyed the real-world usefulness of this.
- They took real ownership of the problem because they got to make decisions based on their own preferences and rankings. They enjoyed completing the problem.
- My students did really well with the car insurance problem. They were excited to learn new terms like “premium” and “deductible.” They worked well together and were thinking at a higher level.
- My students really got into the NASA problem. They found it interesting that despite the probability of an accident, space shuttles were still launched. They were engaged in our discussion of this problem.
What Student's are saying....
- "I was really excited to finally learn some math I would use in the future."
- "One thing that excited me was that we don't just do Algebra, we do things I've never even heard of!"
- “When I did the critical paths, I was happy about how well I understood it and I actually could use that in my everyday life but did not know.”

Workshops are being held this summer in Georgia, Michigan and North Carolina. This year both the Deterministic Modeling and the Probabiility and Decsion Making sections are being taought. We are expecting over 100 teachers to participate in the workshops this summer. Many of the workshop are being taught by teachers that have previously attended a workshop and have taught the MINDSET material in their classrooms.
One of the problems in Chapter 2 involves maximizing the profit from producing Lego table and chairs with limited Lego pieces.

We have been busy re-writing many of the chapters, and with this we will be changing the order of the chapters. Many of the chapters now contain Chapter Summaries, Terms, Study Guides and additional homework problems. The Teacher Materials includes In-text Answers, Study Guide Solutions, handouts, worksheets, Excel spreadsheet templates, Excel spreadsheet solutions and a few chapters have sample tests. We are constantly adding more, so check often. In addition, many teachers are sharing materials on our NING site, so please post your materials and check there for some really great materials and ideas. Three chapters in the Probabilistic Materials have new chapter numbers. The Poisson Chapter has been moved to after the Binomial/Geometric Chapter, see table below.

Have you noticed the NING logo on our webpage? Have you joined yet? Many teachers are piloting several chapter or the entire course this semester, and doing a great job! Several teachers have requested sharing of information on test and quizzes. The NING site is a members-only site created just for MINDSET teachers. This community is for teachers to share ideas, experiences, and teacher created materials with each other. This is a great way to see what other teacher are doing, start a discussion forum , or start a group. It is very easy to use - if you have used Facebook, you will find it is very similiar. fI you not already a member, join today. Don't forget to upload a picture of yourself to your profile, we would rather see they than the generic silhouette.
